Welcome to the Open Lathe Project

The Open Lathe Project is a project to design and promote a high-quality metalworking lathe, buildable by home shop machinists using commonly available metalworking tools. The project will be done in an "open source" fashion, with free and open communication being the key to a successful project.

Group communications take place through a yahoo group, which can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OpenLathe/.

Current discussions have been most active in the areas of the Lathe Bed Discussion, Controls Discussion, and Carriage Discussion.

Below are links to pages that describe the parts of the lathe that we've talked about, and options for building them.
